FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

EVERYTHING PARENTS WANT TO KNOW

Clear answers about our assessments, lessons, curriculum and how your child’s progress is tracked

Is the maths assessment really free?

Yes. Your child can complete the initial maths assessment at no cost and with no obligation to enrol. We use the results to identify strengths, knowledge gaps and the most suitable starting point in our curriculum.

How does the free maths assessment work?

First, you submit your child’s details and choose the correct assessment for their age group. The assessment normally takes around 10–15 minutes. We then review the answers personally and recommend clear next steps.

What will I receive after the assessment?

You will receive feedback on your child’s current level, the main strengths and gaps identified, and a recommended curriculum starting point. We will also explain the most suitable route forward based on their needs and goals.

Is the tuition completely online?

Yes. Lessons are delivered online, allowing students across the UK to access structured maths tuition from home. Students also receive access to assessments, practice work and learning resources alongside their live lessons.

Which age groups do you teach?

South M Tuition supports students from upper Key Stage 2 through to GCSE, including SATs, KS3, GCSE Foundation and GCSE Higher maths.

How long are the lessons?

Most regular lessons last 60 minutes. Some exam-focused sessions may be longer where extra practice, feedback and exam technique are required.

What makes South M Tuition different from a normal tutor?

We do not rely on disconnected weekly lessons. Every student follows a structured nine-stage curriculum with assessments, practice tasks, progress tracking and clear milestones leading towards GCSE readiness.

How will I know whether my child is improving?

Progress is measured through topic assessments, stage assessments, completed curriculum work and regular review. Parents receive clear updates so they can see what has been completed, what still needs work and what comes next.

Does my child need to be good at maths before joining?

No. The purpose of the assessment is to find the correct starting point. Students are taught from the level they currently understand, helping them rebuild confidence and master missing foundations before moving on.

Do you teach both GCSE Foundation and Higher?

Yes. We support students preparing for both Foundation and Higher GCSE Maths. The recommended route depends on the student’s current level, school pathway, target grade and assessment performance.

Do you cover different exam boards?

Yes. Core GCSE maths content overlaps significantly across the main UK exam boards. Exam-specific practice and past-paper work can be tailored to the board your child is sitting.

What happens if my child has significant gaps?

We begin at the earliest point needed rather than rushing ahead. This prevents students from repeatedly struggling with advanced topics because earlier number, algebra, fraction or ratio skills were never fully mastered.
